New Look Cup Competitions

The Parker Trophy (Divisions 1 & 2) and the Capper Trophy (Divisions 3 & 4)

Will be held on Sunday 18 Mar 2018 – 1pm to 5pm approx. at the Cheshire County Sports Club
(if subscription to the tournament is high there will be semi-finals and finals on Sun 15 Apr 2018)

Team competition for 3 men and 3 women. The players must be from the same club within the Chester and District League. There must be at least one player from Division 1 or 2 for the team to enter the Parker Trophy. The team will be handicapped on the strongest person in the team. Players from divisions 1 and 2 cannot enter the Capper Cup.

Initially a round robin game. Each team plays one mens, one ladies and one mixed against each opposition team. Every time the opposition changes the pairings within the team must change. For example men A & B for team 1 play against A & C for team 2. Therefore man C and man B play mixed for teams 1 and 2 respectively. In the next round robin round against a different team the mens must be played by A and C or B and C for team 1. Once three round robin games are played the combination resets.

Entry is £6 per person. Team members to be named upon entry however players can be changed up until two weeks before the tournament. All players to be registered with the Chester & District League.

The entry form is available on the Downloads page.

baxter trophy

Baxter Trophy

Chester came second to Wirral in the Baxter Trophy this year.  After 5-1 wins over Warrington and Crewe, Chester drew the final game against Wirral 3-3.  Amazingly, after counting back events won and points difference over the whole tournament, the two sides could not be separated.  The trophy was eventually awarded to Wirral as they had one fewer event that went to three games.

Huge thanks to our organisers and to all members of the Chester team, many of whom stepped in at very short notice.

How to add scores

Team Captains – go to the Downloads page for the updated  ‘Guide: How to add results’.

The method for entering results is the same as last year but please remember that this season you are entering GAMES won not events won during the match.

It is still a requirement that the home team shall enter the results within 7 days of the match being played.

Major Rule Change – Points Awarded

This season we have a major change to Rules 5.3 & 5.4 relating to how points are awarded. Instead of 2 points for a match win, I point for a draw and 0 points for a loss there will be 1 point awarded for each game won in a match.

Teams will still play 8 events (4 mixed, 2 men’s and 2 ladies doubles) and these events will still be the best of three games in accordance with the rally points scoring system. At the end of the event the captain will record the number of games won and the total of the rally points won by each team.

(The new match score sheet is available on the downloads page and must be used by all teams)

The match result: games won by each team (e.g. 5:14, 12:7, 16:8, 4:13 ) shall be entered on to the website by the home team.

At the end of the season the team having accumulated the greatest number of points (i.e. who have won the greatest number of games) will be the winners of their division.

Men’s League

Due to popular demand we will be running the informal men’s league again in the 2017/18 season.

Initially six clubs entered teams: Buckley, CCO, Christleton (2 teams), Halton, Millbrook and Norley.

Connah’s Quay subsequently joined but only after the fixtures book had been printed. However fixtures for all 7 teams can be found on the Fixtures & Results page.
