Sad News + Funeral Arrangements

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our long-serving league official, President and friend George Williams.

He had struggled health-wise over the last few months but his family were grateful to be with him over Christmas and for his 84th birthday on 1 Jan.

George was such a major part of badminton locally and regionally that to say he will be sorely missed is a complete understatement. (Please click here to read more about George’s considerable involvement and contribution to the game over the years). Our thoughts are with Helen and the family at this time.

George’s funeral will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday 29th January at Blacon Crematorium. Family flowers only but donations in George’s memory will be given to Dorin Park School in Chester (a specialist school that George fundraised for by running summer badminton tournaments over many years).

After the service the family will be holding a celebration of George’s life at The Little Owl (Countess Way, CH1 4DA) and would love to share this occasion with as many of you as possible so they can share memories of George as a husband, father, grandad, badminton player and friend.

Men’s Score Sheets

Following the sad loss of George Williams, could team captains please ensure Men’s League match score sheets are sent (by post or email) to Lyn Brown for the time being.

An updated score sheet containing Lyn’s contact details is available on the Members-Area page.

Wirral Winners

The Len Knight Inter-league tournament took place on Sunday 1 December. It matched the Chester League against the Crewe and Wirral Leagues.

Chester started with good wins in all the age groups against Crewe. We were ahead after the first round of games but Crewe fought back in later games.  Chester held on for an overall win against Crewe.

The match against Wirral was much tougher for Chester. Wirral ladies were particularly strong overwhelming both Chester and Crewe. Wirral ended as winners for the third year running.

Huge thanks to Geoff for organising our team and to all who took part.

Cup Competitions 2020

The Parker & Capper Trophy handicapped cup tournaments will be held on Sunday 15 March 2020 at Christleton Sports Centre from 11am to 5pm.

Full details of the competitions are given on the entry form which can be found on the members-area page. If you wish to enter a team or teams (of 3 men & 3 women) please submit your entry by 31 December 2019.

Division 1 teams please note that the match start time for EROS this season is 8pm (not the 7pm given in the fixtures booklet).

League Tables

At the October meeting there was a proposal to add an average column (points / played) to the league tables and have them sorted on this column.

However the majority of the attendees wanted the tables to remain sorted on points. The compromise was to add the average column for reference purposes.

Badminton England registrations expire on 31 Oct 2019. Could club secretaries please make sure that all members playing in the Chester & District Badminton League are also registered with Badminton England (or, in the case of our Welsh clubs, with Badminton Wales)

How to add scores

Team Captains – go to the Members-Area page to access the ‘Guide: How to add results’.

Remember that it is the responsibility of the home team to enter the scores on the website within 7 days of the match being played though please enter them as soon as possible to help keep the results and tables up to date.

A great afternoon of badminton

It was a great afternoon of competitive badminton with 10 teams entered in the handicapped cup competitions.

After some close fought games it was West Cheshire who triumphed in the Parker Trophy and Hawarden who were the winners of the Capper Trophy (photos on the Galleries page).

A huge thanks to Louise for organising and well done to all the teams who took part – see you again next year!
