Coronavirus Latest

Due to the very unusual circumstances we find ourselves in, the League Officers have decided we will finish the 2019/20 league as it currently stands. The League winners therefore are,

Div 1  Millbrook
Div 2 Christleton B
Div 3  Norley A
Div 4  Hawarden A
Mens   Christleton M1

We hope that we will be able to recommence badminton next season but it has become clear that we are not going to be able to hold an AGM or Fixtures meeting at this point.

When it appears that we will be able to start the next season we will communicate the process we will take.  Assuming the same number of teams will be participating, a rebalance of the leagues  will take place. A full review of the League structure has been planned over the next season for all previously aired concerns. We hope everyone agrees that this is the best solution in the circumstances but contact me if you would like to discuss this further.

We hope you and your families are all safe and well. Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.

Louise Nesbitt, League Chairman

On the 16 Mar 2020 the advice from the government and its scientific & medical advisors was to avoid non-essential contact.

In the light of this advice the league meeting scheduled for the 17 Mar was postponed and the Chester & District Badminton League 2019/20 Season suspended.

More information will be issued as the situation becomes clearer but in the meantime we hope you all keep safe.

Trophy Competition

It seems a lifetime ago now but….

On Sunday 15th March eight teams took part in the annual handicapped cup competition. The tournament took the form of two groups who played in a round robin style against the other teams in their group. The winners of both groups played against each other for 1st and 2nd place and the runners up in each group played for 3rd and fourth.

Group 1 was won by Norley with Hawarden as runners up. Group 2 which contained Christleton 1, 2 and 3 and Capenhurst Vauxhall was a very close affair with all teams tied after two rotations. Capenhurst Vauxhall snatched the group win with 10 games won and with Christleton 2 and 3 tied on 9 games each after three rotations second place came down to point won with Christleton 3 snatching it 342 to 315.

The play off final also was a very close event with games tied at 3 each at the end of mens, ladies and mixed events and so again it came down to points with Capenhurst Vauxhall the eventually winners 107 points to 93. Christleton 3 were third winning 4 games to 2 in the play off.

Huge thanks to our Tournament Secretary, Louise Nesbitt, for organising this and to everyone who took part in what was a very entertaining afternoon of badminton.

Wirral Winners

The Len Knight Inter-league tournament took place on Sunday 1 December. It matched the Chester League against the Crewe and Wirral Leagues.

Chester started with good wins in all the age groups against Crewe. We were ahead after the first round of games but Crewe fought back in later games.  Chester held on for an overall win against Crewe.

The match against Wirral was much tougher for Chester. Wirral ladies were particularly strong overwhelming both Chester and Crewe. Wirral ended as winners for the third year running.

Huge thanks to Geoff for organising our team and to all who took part.
