Junior Inter-league Tournaments

Success again in the Thornley U19 and O’Leary U15 Tournaments.

For the second year running, Chester & District League players picked up both trophies at the Cheshire Inter-league junior tournaments on 29th April 2018. The Chester squads were drawn from Buckley, Christleton, Connah’s Quay, DLCO and the West Cheshire Performance Centre.

Congratulations to both teams and huge thanks to our team managers Emma & Geoff. More photos on the Galleries page.

Presentation Night

Great night – good to see so many of you there and congratulations to all our winners.   Photos from the night are on the Galleries page.

Also a huge thank-you to all who donated prizes for the raffle including our main raffle prize sponsors:

In recognition of the generosity of the above organisations, if you are in a position to support these businesses in anyway please don’t forget to mention the Chester & District Badminton League if you get an opportunity.

Cup Competition – Sun 18th Mar

Four teams entered the Parker Trophy and competed in a handicapped tournament where they all played each other.  This was the 50th consecutive year the Trophy has been played for. The format of changing partner against every different team was well received and enjoyed. Connah’s Quay were the run away winners after a very strong performance.

Players commented that the atmosphere of the tournament was very good and all enjoyed a fun and competitive afternoon of badminton.

Sadly, there were not enough entries for the Capper Cup and so that tournament had to be cancelled.

Baxter Trophy

Chester came second to Wirral in the Baxter Trophy this year.  After 5-1 wins over Warrington and Crewe, Chester drew the final game against Wirral 3-3.  Amazingly, after counting back events won and points difference over the whole tournament, the two sides could not be separated.  The trophy was eventually awarded to Wirral as they had one fewer event that went to three games.

Huge thanks to our organisers and to all members of the Chester team, many of whom stepped in at very short notice.

How to add scores

Team Captains – go to the Downloads page for the updated  ‘Guide: How to add results’.

The method for entering results is the same as last year but please remember that this season you are entering GAMES won not events won during the match.

It is still a requirement that the home team shall enter the results within 7 days of the match being played.

Major Rule Change – Points Awarded

This season we have a major change to Rules 5.3 & 5.4 relating to how points are awarded. Instead of 2 points for a match win, I point for a draw and 0 points for a loss there will be 1 point awarded for each game won in a match.

Teams will still play 8 events (4 mixed, 2 men’s and 2 ladies doubles) and these events will still be the best of three games in accordance with the rally points scoring system. At the end of the event the captain will record the number of games won and the total of the rally points won by each team.

(The new match score sheet is available on the downloads page and must be used by all teams)

The match result: games won by each team (e.g. 5:14, 12:7, 16:8, 4:13 ) shall be entered on to the website by the home team.

At the end of the season the team having accumulated the greatest number of points (i.e. who have won the greatest number of games) will be the winners of their division.
